may

ah that sentimental time of year when all the little high school seniors are hatching and ready to spread their wings to the world.

i can remember those days.. (albeit though they become increasingly blurry, year to year.)

oh yeah and that song 'i hope you dance'... yes, that.

for all it's sappy tear-inducing guilt-trip type qualities in the guise of being inspirational-- i wonder if it is really the best advice, you know to tell these young impressionable people?

"And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance... I hope you dance."

just throwing it out there, i've had to sit out a few dances {metaphorically} in life since then. (plus non-metaphorically i'm not going to win dancing with the stars anytime soon! --that was a joke, in case you missed it lol ;)

sometimes the very best decision you can make is to step back, let go, and let God. i feel like part of being an adult is being able to accept there is often a waiting period. and, being okay with that.

but anyway, how these thoughts even got here in the first place is i heard this song on the radio:

and i was just thinking how i would much i prefer it over lee ann womack's crooning any day. it just would be a better graduation song all around.

valentine schmalentine

truth of the matter is... saying i'm "kind of" a feminist, well~ let's just say is putting it mildly.

i have a major problem with what seems to be men and society's generalized norms of male/female expectations.

but i don't have time for all that. I will focus this weeks' spirited one sided discussion on a particular classic behavior set that drives me wild. (& not in a good way~ ugh really! have you been listening to anything I've been saying!?)

1. THE CAVE-MAN FORMULA
(equivalent roughly to: ME SINGLE + U SINGLE = U NOT ONLY REQUIRED BUT ALSO OBLIGATED TO DATE ME.

yep, let's just discount that the other person has any kind of brain or any inkling of interest in you and man-handle them into a relationship with you! I mean, c'mon~ why wouldn't you?

and women! don't you know you are nothing as a unattached female and surely your only validation in life is to be thrown over the arm of whatever brute that approaches you!? moreover, you should be happy and thankful for being 'selected' and promptly make a sammich to express your joy.

guys~ maybe that girl you're so baffled by why she doesn't like you~ take a step back and THINK: 'hmm... am i just assuming that because she is single she will by default have a strong emotional bond and connection with me?' 'does she perhaps have some other ambitions in life other than me a random creeper?'

ugh nevermind. enough~ if you will excuse me, i have some better things to do:

God, after today all i can say is~ you have quite the sense of humor! ;) & i have the sneaking suspicion you  love these sweater looks as much as I do?

time.time.time.

i think we're running all-together quite short of it, these days in our part of the world.
just blink and lo! it shall be spent.

i hear summer's edging away into August or September, and soon will be gone~
tsk, i truly abhor the news. i guess the profession does employ a few, but dreadful all the same.

anyways, at least some have been making use of the rapidly 'flying' time i suppose--
don't call them the birds and the bees for nothing, all right; flit and flight-ing all about!
what were once meadows are swarming locust fields by now~

oh me oh my-- have you seen how the magazines are quite filling up these days?  titles like "150 things you MUST do in your 20's", or "ways to lose weight FAST", and don't let me fail to mention the very popular "Busyness Weekly"--

alas, there is simply no TIME to peruse these imperative reads, we can thank providence surely for download NOW option for 9.99 each!

what. is all. this speeding FOR?! why the great hurry?
(i'm more than a little embarrassed to ask); for you see~

"to stop a running bull in his tracks, is to encounter the horns."

arbitrary chronicles

do you ever see new things?

no, i'm not talking about the new "fastest, slimmest, sleekest, lightest, best-est" new iphone that's out;

the stupid new it car; the new movie; the new hit sitcom; the new chewing gum, really anything like that..

maybe the question was poorly worded. i'll try again.

do you ever see new things-- that are assuredly not new, but you have just never seen them before?

ok. yeah that was even worse.

the other day in lecture i witnessed something that was just new and interesting to me. i know it shouldn't have been-- (i blame the incredible dryness of professor H.) but well,

so it's this giant lecture hall with hundreds and hundreds of people, and due to the particular subject this class features... only complete and utter nerds sit in the front up by aforementioned blowhard professor.

oh and me. i sit there too, but... i'm an exception, and i don't really know what i am ;)

regular people just come in way up in the back entrances and sit close to all the exits.

anyway, one day this super cool kid comes and sits right up in the nerd section! no joke. this is crazy town, folks. mixing up all regulated social norms!? we just cannot have this. let me explain this a bit: this kid's "coolness" was not merely of my own arbitrary judgment, rather i use this term to describe someone that would be universally recognized as your classic all-american, star of the highschool football team, mr. popular, too-cool-for-school type, a.k.a. the kind of kid that never comes to class, except sometimes on exam days... you get the picture.

it was just really strange. no crony bros around anywhere. no earbuds in. no texting under the desk... no leaving after 5 minutes, it literally did not make any sense.

what was interesting to me though is how every once in a while during lecture he would look very slightly to his left and then slightly to his right and then very slowly reach into his jacket pocket all subtle-like. i of course thought it was your basic classic phone move. instead, he would pull out a pair of broken glasses.

just the left side frame was broken. he held them up on his face to see the powerpoint. after a few seconds i think he would get embarrassed by holding them on his face and he would hurriedly slide them back in his pocket before he thought anyone noticed.

i had never seen anyone do that before. it kind of reminded me of the days of the old-fashioned spectacle.

it was very definitely not a thing a "cool" guy would do.

and... well mr. monocle man, you'll never know this,

but,  i for one, thought that was a good thing.

home for christmas

i know what most people mention as their favorite part of being home for the holidays:
rest, relaxation, good food, loved ones near and dear, shopping, gift-giving, usual stuff..

it's not that those things don't matter to me, they just don't make my tip top favorites ;)

5. movies: i never ever watch movies unless i'm home. i mean i'll watch a rare spot of tv every once in a blue moon, but only in less than 15 min sittings. so hard to beat the experience of a crowded couch with blankets at home.
4. frizzy hair: home is the remarkable one place on earth where when i leave my hair alone and let it do it's natural curly way; instead of strange looks, i get genuine "wow! you're hair looks so good like that!
3. no alarm clocks: unbeknownst to any of my immediate family, i am usually a very early riser during the school year; however, at home i have come to be known as some species of hibernating bear that is not to be woken. i very much try to maintain the image.
2. sweatpants: my family is probably the only ones who would ever love me in my sweatpants. seriously, you haven't seen these sweatpants. that's how i can tell it's real love.
1. craziness: i guess i just really like how they put up with me. and i can be silly and random all i want and they can't judge me, because they're weird too
merry christmas!

if i met mr. right i would blow him off.
probably because i just met mr. adorable-trying-to-talk-to-me-at-a-coffee-shop-but-i-was-too-busy-and-frankly-unaware-of-what-was-going-on-:(

all i have to say is mr. right better be able to deal with initial rejection.

sorry.

candy cantaloupe

"candy cantaloupe!" her withered hand reaches toward me, shaking a little plastic cup. i can't see what is in it, so i step closer. "try to-day, so good. you like." black-haired man steps in line in front of me, obscuring my view. finally, he moves. "here! you. have one!" i can see the cup's contents fully this time. orange, over-ripe plain cantaloupe sitting in a fourth an inch of murky water. my nose involuntary scrunches up. oh, that was all it was. i shuffle a few steps back and then right, murmuring an "oh no thanks". it is lost in the noise of screaming child, "mom! mom! i said i want some! mooom! are you listening!" "candy cantaloupe!"the old woman calls again with that lilt to her voice. i walk down the tomato aisle of the produce section. ew. ew. ew. why did i even get in line for that? i wasn't the poor old woman's fault. fact of the matter is, i just hate cantaloupe.

well

i'm in the lab, again. and shh! it's after hours, but no one is in sight. will probably be here the rest of the night.

...i'm not sure why i had to write that, just to document my life as it dwindles away, i 'suppose.

this happy little song came on my pandora:

reminds me of summer and france.

back to this totally extensive illustrator project.

tell me i'm not the only one??

"Signs of a sidewalk rager include muttering or bumping into others; uncaringly hogging a walking lane; and acting in a hostile manner by staring, giving a "mean face" or approaching others too closely" hehe, totally did that today. not. :) but there was an extremely slow walker that i somehow got stuck behind for QUITE A WHILE (including but not limited to multiple hallways and 2 flights of stairs) at school. you can't tell me no one else ever feels the same??

i mean, it's a real condition! :):

things that i found out recently:

1. i ebbbbbbbbay!

2. electric security fences, as found in prisons, do not cause sparks in rainstorms.

3. i can do new things! never saw myself in the group leader dynamic, but i randomly took charge and assigned everyone jobs in class today (*and* they didn't hate me!)

4. i'm planning on dying my hair this year or next

5. pinetrest.com is a fun time! also mint.com

6. chatting or acknowledging strangers live or phone does not scare me. note: does not apply to internet (fb chat, die.)
